SFBAADE
HISTORY
On November 17, 1983, a group of nine diabetes
educators interested in the formation of a local AADE chapter meet at Letterman
Army Medical Center. Present were Jill Sass, Mary Sullivan, Johanna Oswald,
Barbara Sater, Clare Cavanaugh, Irene Sbiczak, Deborah McCoy, Mary Mead, and
Carol Ceresa.

1985 SFBAADE becomes a chapter of AADE
1987
Chapter assists with the development and publication of AADE national
guidelines Blood Glucose Monitoring and Blood Borne Disease Prevention,
Mary Sullivan Chairperson of Guidelines Committee
1990
Chapter assists the City and County of San Francisco in developing San
Francisco’s Home Sharps Disposal Program
1991
Creation of The Bridge (SFBAADE’s newsletter)
Chapter assists with the development and
publication of AADE national guidelines Infection Control Measures for
Patient Education as a Means of Preventing Blood-Borne Disease Transmission
during Diabetes Self-Care Procedures, Mary Sullivan Chairperson of Task
Force
1992
Chapter is the Program Planning Committee for the 19th Annual
AADE Convention in Anaheim, Ruth Breitenbach is
Chair of the Planning Committee; Mary Sullivan is Chair of the Abstract
Committee
Chapter hosts the Hospitality Committee at
Anaheim
1993
Ruth Breitenbach is AADE Diabetes Educator of the Year
1998 Kim Higgins is given AADE Legislation award

SFBAADE web site launched, web master Rob Quadri
2001
Chapter assists Alameda County in developing Alameda County’s Home Sharps
Disposal Program

SFBAADE celebrates 20 years anniversary as a chapter of AADE
